Mrs. Baldwin presented her robotic jellyfish project at this year's Maker Faire.

Elmwood Elementary School’s art teacher, Tina Baldwin, competed in and received an award at this year’s annual Maker Faire in Milwaukee for her robotic jellyfish project. Mrs. Baldwin has been presenting at the Maker Faire for three years. This marks the first year she has received an award, but it will not be the last. She is not only working on improving her skills and adding to her “maker” collection, but is hoping to encourage her students and the community to get involved in activities/events related to the Maker Faire. Mrs. Baldwin is a co-founder of The Cre8ory, which is striving to open the first makerspace in Lake County and enable community members of all ages to “Learn, Share, Create, Repair.” Her drive in this non-profit stems from part of her mission as an educator. As a teacher and “maker,” she wants to “enable students to take risks, learn from failures, and ultimately believe in their ability to learn. [She hopes] that by seeing their art teacher adventure into STEM, and especially robotics, it can help be an inspiration and propel them into their adventures of developing creative problem solving skills.” With Mrs. Baldwin’s “maker” abilities, there could be potential of Elmwood students making an appearance at the next Maker Faire.
